To be In Solidarity is to be in unity with your feelings AND actions for a common interest. We all want to be seen, heard, and respected. Those common generousities have not always been extended to black people, natives, or queer folks. Right now, Black people need the solidarity of every single person reading this caption and beyond. It’s time for us to come together for the greater good. Liberate one in order to liberate all. I’m so excited about this design because for the past year @teresabaker11 @kulacloth and I have been conspiring to create a fundraiser for good. It felt like the right time to bring this to life. With the sales of this Kula cloth we will attempt to raise over $20k to be distributed to a few non profits in the outdoors that are working hard to change the narrative of what it means to be a minority or underrepresented in the outdoors. More information on the organizations and the product release date soon. Thank you @teresabaker11 for always being a catalyst for good and thank you @kulacloth team for giving your resources and platform. For now feel free to share this Image (tag is for cred) to start conversations in your community or to make someone smile! ⁣

Engulfed | After leaving the Pacific Crest Trail t Engulfed | After leaving the Pacific Crest Trail this summer due to sickness, my husband and I wandered central California, randomly stopping where our hearts felt like taking us. We drove down Highway 1 through Big Sur and made a stop at Pfeiffer Beach. With breathtaking views, one more beautiful than the next, in my mind, I had a particular shot that I wanted to capture. I only had my iPhone with me, and although I knew that my phone was waterproof, I was hesitant to get it wet with salty seawater. For most of the afternoon, I conservatively practiced my technique for capturing a stop-motion of a wave silhouetted by the sun. The light had started to change, and I knew I had to take a chance to get the image I wanted. I stooped down low behind a rock that was now being inundated with waves. With each undulation, I stepped back away to avoid getting my phone wet. Eventually, I saw the perfect moment approaching; I squatted down low and prepared to capture the shot. The surge proved to be a little more than what I was anticipating, and the wave startlingly crashed down on top of my head, enveloping me in water, getting my phone and me soaked. In shock, I stood up while my husband laughed. I rinsed my phone off with clean water from our drinking bottle and tenderly dried it off. I then looked at the image caught on camera, and I exceeded my expectations; I captured the image exactly how it appeared in my mind! This shot took hours of trial and error and waiting for the right moment. The persistence paid off. ⁣
⁣
The second image is the result of what happened immediately after the wave covered me. ⁣

Essence | The fluidic foundation of existence as w Essence | The fluidic foundation of existence as we know it sustains, supports, and nourishes. Yet, it transforms, destroys, and kills. It is beautiful, mesmerizing, and soothing. Nevertheless, it is also ugly, distracting, and terrifying. It quietly restores the senses, yet vehemently heaves the unmovable. Flutterby ⁣| We did a little hiking on the PCT t Flutterby ⁣| We did a little hiking on the PCT this summer, and while on an 11-mile stretch somewhere near Kennedy Canyon to Sonora Pass—a segment I call the ‘Ridge Walk’—we hiked up to a crest and experienced this magical moment. We were in the midst of a butterfly migration, which was undoubtedly the highlight of a brutal section between Tuolumne Meadows and Sonora Pass. ⁣
⁣
Although we didn’t hit our 500-mile mark due to sickness, we still covered almost 200-miles and gazed upon some of the most magnificent landscapes and immersed ourselves entirely in nature. ⁣

On the shore of the lake, the sun behind us, we wa On the shore of the lake, the sun behind us, we watched the effect of it dipping below the horizon. The close of the day created that characteristic alpenglow that always paints the distant mountaintops with a rosy radiance here in the Sierra, while shadows of blue and glimmers of pink reflected in the water. We watched until it was gone, and the colors of dusk faded away, heralding the night. —Excerpt from ‘THE JMT 2018 SERIES – STORY 5 – THE IMPERFECT STORM’ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⠀

This story, the fifth in a series, starts on day eleven of our John Muir Trail (JMT) hike of 2018. It’s of collection of grumblings, disenchanted anticipation, childish breakdowns, and uncharitable cruelty happening over a week, concluding in redemption. ⁣⠀
